A Letter from Hasina

Today we read "Brick Lane" and had to either write a letter from Hasina or a dialogue between Nazneen and the tattoo lady. I chose to write the letter, so here it is:

Dear Nazneen!

Dear Nazneen how are you? I hope you are good, and that you have gotten a good life with your husband. As you warned me of father has thrown me out of the family because I chose Malek instead of an arranged marriage like you. However, I do wonder how you could just let father do that to you, you don`t even know the man, and he is so much older than you are! I have found true love, and I am standing with him until the end!

Because of what Malek and I have done, we are both outcasts and therefore we decided to flee. We are currently in West-India, and we are trying to get further to the west or perhaps we move the other way towards the Philippines, nothing is clear yet.

I have to tell you, my dear sister, I am afraid. I am afraid of what will happen, will someone find us and take us back home? Will we die of disease or starvation? (You see it is not everyday we find food), when will we run out of money? Will we ever settle down? It is so many questions in my head, in which there are no answers to except that we have to wait and see. And I never tell Malek about my fear oh no! I can simply not do that, that would be shown as lack of trust and love, and I could not do that to him because I love him Nazneen! – but I promise you, I will be positive and I hope and pray every day for good luck and a better future.
I love
you my dear sister. Take care and I hope I will see you soon.

A last promise: I promise to write to you more often!

With Love Hasina
